COURSE DESCRIPTION DFCon 2012 is the premier international interdisciplinary diabetic foot conference in North America. This year's conference is joint sponsored by Valley Presbyterian Hospital, Ciné-Med® and International Conference Management, Inc. It features the presentation of the 9th Annual Edward James Olmos Award for Advocacy in Amputation Prevention. The course is designed for the wide spectrum of generalists and specialists who diagnose and manage the diabetic foot. It will delve into diagnostic and interventional strategies for diabetic foot ulcers and amputation prevention. Featuring a world-renowned faculty, it offers the opportunity to review state-of-the-art concepts and techniques.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES At the end of the activity, attendees will be able to: • List key risk factors associated with ulceration and amputation. • Discuss the importance of appropriate vascular interventions and their regional and ethnic variations in diabetic foot care. • Recognize the growing importance of the diabetic foot as an international healthcare problem. • Discuss the role of various technologies and their impact on healing and preventing diabetic foot wounds. • Outline the appropriate use of various shoes, insoles and braces in foot care. • Outline the basics of appropriate antibiotic care of the infected diabetic foot. • Discuss the complexities of the microenvironment of the diabetic foot wound. • Cite the fiscal and social impact of diabetic foot ulcers and amputation.

ACCREDITATION This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of Ciné-Med®, Valley Presbyterian Hospital and International Conference Management. Ciné-Med® is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

DESIGNATION STATEMENT Ciné-Med® designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 19.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) designates DFCon for a maximum of 25.5 SVU-CMEs which are accepted by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers® (ARDMS®) towards recertification, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) for Category A credit, and the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) for laboratory accreditation.
